Product Overview
The HyFin® Vent Chest Seal Individual Pack is the full-size, single-unit version of North American Rescue's flagship vented chest seal. The 6" × 6" deployed size provides greater coverage than the Compact version (4.75" × 4.75") and is optimal for large-diameter wounds, irregular wound margins, or situations where maximum adhesive contact area is desired. The individual pack format supports custom IFAK builds where the operator selects each component — for example, pairing a single HyFin Vent with a single HyFin Occlusive in the same pouch, mirroring the USMC Combo Pack configuration in individually sourced components.
The patented 3-channel pressure-relief venting system (U.S. Patent 7,504,549) allows air to escape the pleural cavity during exhalation while preventing re-entry during inhalation. The fail-safe design means that two of the three channels can be fully occluded — by blood, soft tissue, or debris — before venting function is lost. The large red elliptical tab facilitates single-step, glove-on peel-and-apply application and provides the mechanism for wound burping if tension pneumothorax develops after seal placement. The transparent backing allows wound visualization and placement accuracy.
Individual packs are also the preferred format for training and familiarization programs, where instructors may demonstrate seal application to one wound site on a manikin using a single seal rather than opening a twin pack. For operational deployments, the standard protocol remains twin-pack carry to address both entry and exit wounds. For complete chest trauma capability, browse MED-TAC's chest & thoracic supplies or configure a complete IFAK kit.
Application Instructions
- Expose and prepare: Remove clothing from the chest. Wipe excess blood and moisture from the wound site — the hydrogel adhesive tolerates adverse conditions but benefits from surface clearing.
- Open via Red-Tip notch: Tear the foil package at the Red-Tip Technology® notch. Do not contact the adhesive surface.
- Center and apply: Position the vent tab away from the wound. Center the seal over the wound and press firmly from center outward.
- Treat both wounds: Apply a second seal (separate individual pack or twin pack) to the exit wound if present.
- Monitor: Assess SpOâ‚‚, respiratory rate, and breath sounds. If tension signs develop, grasp the red tab and lift the seal edge to burp accumulated air; re-apply firmly.
